Community Gardens
Community gardens provide fresh produce and plants as well as satisfying labor, neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment. Gardens improve users’ health through increased fresh vegetable consumption and providing a venue for exercise.
Joplin Area Community Gardening sponsors a garden for neighborhood residents at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Junge Blvd. The primary goal of this group is to establish gardens in lower income areas but their mission includes promoting healthier lifestyles, increasing education and developing neighborhood involvement.
Webb City United Methodist Church has three raised beds started, and the Tommy Eaves Community Garden at Division and Central Street in Joplin has several large raised beds. Go check them out!
Better yet, speak to your church or neighborhood community organization about putting in a garden spot for your very own community garden!
